Chosen Families #5: Edith Marie Herman - RELATIVE FOUND

I want to discuss one of my success stories from this project and my initiative to return photographs to relatives. Some photographs I have over the years and with my winter break I’ve decided to commit and get them over to loved ones if I can.

Essentially my process is locating the individuals and see if people have family trees about them, and ask if they are related/interested in copies whether digital or physical.

And finally, they are going back home.

This photograph is of Edith Marie Herman. It was taken when they were 6 months old at the photograph Grier located at 906 Arch Street Philadelphia, PA. The photograph itself is damaged and worn, split in half, nearly falling apart. I was able to locate some records about Edith and her parents, George W. Herman and Minnie E. Herman.

Unfortunately, Edith’s story is short and on the tragic side. According the Philadelphia Return of Death record, she passed on the 19th of June, 1893. She was only 1 year and 11 months old. Cause of death listed is “Congestion of Brain, Primary Convulsions”. She was born in Philadelphia.

She will be sent over by mail shortly to a relative.
